I first heard about this EP in Kitsap Sun’s preview of the Dutchess & the Duke/Cave Singers set last night, and at the show Duke Jesse Lortz told me that D&D is indeed planning on making an EP with their NYC friends over at Sacred Bones Records. And even though he and Dutchess Kimberly Morrison are both considering relocating (he to Oakland, she to NYC, perhaps), they still plan on making a full-length follow-up to last year’s Sunset/Sunrise with Seattle’s Hardly Art Records, which has put out both their records so far.

Hardly Art chatterbox Nick Heliotis says he hopes D&D’s EP for Sacred Bones will help open the band up a broader audience.

“Sacred Bones specializes in limited run / really cool / vinyl only stuff (mostly EPs) and are good friends with the band so it makes sense for them to do this project,” he told me in an email. “The reality is that different labels are good at different things and good at reaching different audiences – and with the current state of the music industry (both the positives and the negatives…) I think it is really important for small labels to work together on this sort of thing.”
